An Emotional Support Animal is an animal whose presence provides therapeutic benefit to someone living with a mental or emotional condition. ESAs help with conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, panic disorder, and other DSM-5-recognized diagnoses. The relationship is clinical: a licensed mental health professional must determine that your animal contributes to your treatment.
Under the Fair Housing Act, an ESA letter from a licensed clinician unlocks reasonable-accommodation rights in housing. That means no-pet policies, breed restrictions, weight limits, and pet rent or deposits cannot be applied to your ESA. Your letter is the documentation that triggers these rights.
Your letter unlocks federal protection in housing — fast, signed, and verifiable.

The answers most pet owners need before applying.
An Emotional Support Animal letter is a written recommendation from a licensed mental health professional confirming that an animal provides therapeutic benefit for a person with a diagnosed mental or emotional condition. Under the Fair Housing Act, an ESA letter qualifies you for reasonable accommodation in housing — including no-pet buildings.
Most applications are reviewed and signed within two hours during business hours. State-specific requirements may extend the timeline in California, Iowa, Montana, and Florida.
Federal law requires housing providers to grant reasonable accommodation when presented with valid documentation from a licensed therapist. Pet rent, pet deposits, and breed/weight restrictions cannot be charged for an ESA. Your landlord may verify the letter directly with the issuing clinician.
Service Dogs (including Psychiatric Service Dogs) are individually trained to perform specific tasks for a disability and are protected by the ADA, including in public accommodations. ESAs provide therapeutic emotional support and are protected only in housing under the Fair Housing Act.
Twelve months from the date of issue. We send renewal reminders at 60, 30, and 7 days before expiration. Existing clients receive discounted renewal pricing.
If our clinician determines they cannot in good faith issue a letter for your situation, we refund the full application fee within five business days. We never bill for letters we cannot ethically sign.
